Relaxed Autumn Hike in the Gantrisch Area Link to heading
Today’s plan was a relaxed yet impressive hike in the Gantrisch area.
We started at the cross-country hut in Ottenleuebad, where we parked the car and laced up our hiking boots.
From the hut, the trail led us gently uphill toward the Gägger, passing through fragrant forests and across the well-known Gäggersteg, a wooden walkway built after Storm Lothar.
It crosses the forest area that was destroyed by the storm and offers fascinating insights into the natural regeneration of the woodland.
We then continued along the path toward the Pfyffe.
Just before reaching the summit, the fog began to lift — the sun broke through and bathed the autumn landscape in a warm, golden light.
At the top, we enjoyed the wonderful view and took a long lunch break.
Re-energized, we continued on to the Chessere Cave, a small but fascinating natural feature.
It’s well worth a short detour — easily accessible and an exciting spot for both young and old.
From there, the trail gently descended back to the parking area at Ottenleuebad.
To round off the day, we treated ourselves to a delicious coffee and dessert at the Selitalberghütte — the perfect ending to a wonderful and relaxed hiking day.
