Thursday – Plants, Pizza, and Panorama Link to heading

The next day begins, and I’m up early—really early. So I start my morning with tea at the dining table, accompanied by a stunning sunrise. Now that’s how you start a day.

Sunrise

As the sun rises, I slowly start to wake up properly. Eventually, Noë joins me and we have a relaxed breakfast before packing our things and heading from Bastia to Corbara. On the way, we take a quick break for coffee and a pain au chocolat—vital for travel happiness.

Just before reaching Corbara, we stop by the Parc de Saleccia, a beautiful botanical garden showcasing Corsican and Mediterranean flora. Flowers bloom everywhere, bees buzz, and there are two ponds with frogs and fish, plus some furry and feathery residents: goats, donkeys, chickens—the full set. We wrap up the visit with a delicious slice of vegetable tart and salad before tackling the final climb to our new Airbnb.

After checking in, we explore the area. Just above the hill sits the Notre-Dame des 7 Douleurs with a jaw-dropping view—yet another panorama to fall in love with. And because we simply feel like it, we treat ourselves to more pizza. Really good pizza. Followed by tiramisu and fondant au chocolat for dessert. What more could you ask for?

Friday – Rocks, Fish, and a Bit of Frostbite Vibes Link to heading

Today, we head to the sea for the first time—destination: Punta Spano. We find a quiet, sunny spot among the rocks. Excitedly, we explore the coast, watch fish and lizards, and simply soak in the natural beauty. Afterward, it’s time to relax: reading, knitting, soaking up the sun. Until I get the urge to explore again.

Between the rocks, I spot a jellyfish drifting close to the shore. I watch it for minutes as the waves gently rock it back and forth—until suddenly, it gets swept through a narrow crevice. And then—snap!—a crab grabs the jellyfish and vanishes into the darkness. Wild! I go on to discover more mini crabs and fish. A full-on nature cinema experience.

Back in the sun, we do some more reading, and then Noë comes up with the idea: swimming! Yes, we both know the water’s cold—but hey, no risk, no frostbite. After a long moment of hesitation, we both take the plunge. Briefly. But still! I grab the snorkel mask and watch some fish underwater. Wonderful.

Walk
Warmed back up by the sun, we go in search of a strong coffee. Then, before heading back to the Airbnb, we enjoy a coastal walk. Thankfully, it’s spring—not too hot—but when the wind dies down, the sun really blazes. Still, it’s gorgeous: rocks, flowers, ocean views. So beautiful, in fact, that we jump into the water one more time. Just because we can. Now really: back to the Airbnb.

Saturday – Citadel Vibes, Antipasti, and Dolphin Magic Link to heading

Citadel

Today’s destination is Calvi—a small, charming town with a citadel right on the sea. So we hop in the car and head out! Once there, we stroll through the alleys and climb up to the citadel. It’s not huge, but it’s definitely full of charm. From the top, you get a wonderful view of the town, the sea, and the surrounding hills. Add some peaceful silence, and it’s just lovely.

After the tour, we enjoy a coffee, chill out a bit, and let ourselves drift before slowly heading back.

On the way back, we make a quick stop at the supermarket—success! Our basket quickly fills with Corsican goodies: cheese, olives, lonzu, bread… everything the antipasti heart desires. Back at the Airbnb, we feast—a mini banquet.

After that? More chilling, of course. This time up by the Notre-Dame des 7 Douleurs again, with reading, knitting, and lots of peace and quiet.

For the perfect finale, we drive in the evening to Fanale di Pietra—a lighthouse with a spectacular view of the coast. On the way there, we spot something moving in the water… dolphins! We watch them swim slowly from the shore out into the open sea. A total goosebumps moment.

Then it’s up onto the rocks, a bit of climbing, and soon we’re sitting with the perfect view, watching the sun sink into the ocean. Golden light, salty air, total stillness.

Back at the Airbnb, we end the evening cozily—with a light dinner and a little more relaxing.
